This page is dedicated to a wonderful person, my mother-in-law. Gladys H. Quimby was born Gladys Howarth Bardsley on August 17, 1908 and was the oldest of nine children. Her mother died in childbirth when Gladys was only 16 years old, so she learned how to be a responsible person very young. Gladys met Walker O'Neil Quimby through her sister, Ruth, and they were married ten days later, on June 24, 1929. Their oldest daughter, Barbara, was born on May 24,1930 and Audrey was born nine years later on February 21. In 1942, Gladys had her last child, Walker A. Quimby, who became my husband in August of 1992. He changed his name to Anthony W. in 1961.
We lost Mom in January of 1996 to cancer and we miss her every day. Mom was the best person I have ever met, and the kindest. She saw the good in everyone, and taught that quality to her children. Anthony is just like his mother in that way. Mom had a tough life and always kept her faith, but never forced her beliefs on anyone. She practiced her belief in the way she lived her life. There was much joy and much sorrow. Mom lost her oldest grandchild in a schoolbus accident, then her oldest daughter, Barbara, in December of 1977, on her son, Anthony's birthday. December 4 became a very sad day for everyone after that. Mom raised Barbara's son, Kevin, the best she could.
But Mom was always cheerful and happy. she loved all her grandchildren, all ten of them. Barbara only had one son, but Audrey had four children and Anthony had five.

Mom used to make these dolls. When she moved in with us in August of 1995, we had to close her home. I found this doll up in the closet, brought her home, put a dress on her, and brought her into Mom's room. Mom was delighted when she saw the doll dressed. We kept the doll on Mom's bed and every night when I said goodnight to Mom, I would tell the doll to watch over her. Mom decided to call the doll Diane. We asked her why. She said because the doll watches over her when I can't be there. I have the doll now because Mom gave her to me. It is very special to me.
